The 38th Tartu Maraton is cancelled
The organizing committee decided to cancel 38th Tartu Maraton due to lack of snow.
Warm weather and rain of the last weeks melted nearly all the snow in South-Estonia. Therefore preparing the ski tracks for the 38th Tartu Maraton is impossible.
Indrek Kelk, the Race Director, admitted that they had to make a hard decision because they could not see a chance to prepare the courses for the race scheduled for Sunday. "All the other preparations were done as planned and we waited for the positive weather forecast until the very last minute," said Kelk. Unfortunately not much snow is expected for next week.
All the decisions concerning the financial side of the marathon will be made before the end of this week. Possible special entry fees for the next year's race will be announced by the end of this week.
The last time Tartu Maraton was cancelled was in 2004.
